Size-dependent electron transfer from atomically defined nanographenes to metal oxide nanoparticles.
2020
Atomically defined nanographenes (NGs) feature size-dependent energy gaps induced by, and tuneable through, quantum confinement. Their energy-tunability and robustness make NGs appealing candidates as active elements in sensitized geometries, where NGs functionalize a metal oxide (MO) film with large-area-to-volume ratio. Despite the prominent relevance of NG/MO interfaces for developing novel architectures for solar energy conversion, to date, little information is available regarding the fundamentals of electron transfer (ET) processes taking place from NG donors to MO acceptors. Here, we analyze the interplay between the size of atomically precise NGs and ET dynamics at NG/MO interfaces.…
ZnS Ultrathin interfacial layers for optimizing carrier management in Sb2S3-based photovoltaics
2021
Antimony chalcogenides represent a family of materials of low toxicity and relative abundance, with a high potential for future sustainable solar energy conversion technology. However, solar cells based on antimony chalcogenides present open-circuit voltage losses that limit their efficiencies. These losses are attributed to several recombination mechanisms, with interfacial recombination being considered as one of the dominant processes. In this work, we exploit atomic layer deposition (ALD) to grow a series of ultrathin ZnS interfacial layers at the TiO2/Sb2S3 interface to mitigate interfacial recombination and to increase the carrier lifetime. ALD allows for very accurate control over th…
Engineering nanoarchitectures for high performance solar cells
2020
Abstract Inorganic semiconductor nanomaterials are exploited for the solar energy conversion for the past few decades and astonishing efficiency records are achieved through various device architectures. Interesting morphologies such as nanospheres, nanorods, nanoplates, nanowires, nanotubes, and hierarchy nanostructures are delivering promising results and contributing high efficiency in various kinds of modern generation solar cells. These architectures are obtained by different synthesis approaches in which all the dimensions of the materials could perfectly be tuned through optimized physical parameters. Contributions of these architectures to long term-stability, good carrier transport…
Fabrication and characterization of ZnO nanowires/CdSe/CuSCN eta-solar cell
2006
